Welcome
message
from the Worthy Grand Prior, S.E. Chevalier Ian Sinclair KGCTpl
to the
Website of the Prince Henry St Clair, Preceptory & Commandary
of Scottish Knight Templars, for Masonic & Templar Studies.
Chevaliers, Squires, Friends, and
all interested persons, Welcome to the new web site of
The Prince Henry St Clair Preceptory of Scottish Knight
Templars, which is situated at the Clan Sinclair Study
Centre, Noss Head Lighthouse Estate, Wick,
Caithness, Scotland KW1
4QT.
The Preceptory was
created within the old stable block, which was built
in 1847, by Alan Stevenson, who also built the
lighthouse. We have attempted to keep as much of the
authenticity of the stables as possible, and, as
you will see from the pictures, this has been
successful. The Preceptory and Commandary will serve as
our headquarters forthe
Scottish Knight Templarsin Caithness,
who wish to be active in the research of Templarism.
You may ask why
we still have a need for Knight Templars in present day
society, when there appear to be no crusades to be
fought, and no pilgrims to protect.
That may be so in
the reality of the situation, but if you stop and think
about it, there are still many other ways of
operating a crusade, for instance our concerted effort
to further the cause in the search for knowledge, the
study of history, the preservation of archive material,
the continued efforts to preserve our Scottish heritage,
to save our ancient structures and monuments, the
current efforts to save Castle Sinclair-Girnigoe are a
fine example of what we can do to help, also it is our
endeavour to ensure all proven facts
are recorded correctly, that is the objective of our
Preceptory, and its supporters,
This renaissance castle
built between the late 1300’s and late 1700’s, is a
scheduled monument, listed by the World Monuments Fund,
and is currently undergoing archaeological and building
work, not only to preserve it but to make it a safe
visitor attraction accessable by wheelchair. The aim is
to re-open part of the castle as each phase is
completed, after the excavations, it will also reveal
much more of what the castle looked like in medieeval
times. Why not combine a visit to the castle with one to
the Clan Sinclair Study centre which is nearby.
As happens in
some other orders, it is not our intention to sit
on our backsides, pontificating about how knowledgable
we are, how long we have been Templars, and that one day
we may actually stand up and do something constructive,
instead of arguing about who we recognise and who we
don't, and who has the highest gong, and where to put
the comma, and the full stop.
The Prince Henry
St Clair Preceptory and Commandary, is situated
next door to the Clan Sinclair Study Centre, which
contains many rare, and valuable books which are there
to be used.
Membership of
the order may be open to all men and women in the United
Kingdom and Overseas, who support Chivalric 'Christian'
Ideals. People of high ideals who hold other beliefs may
also be admitted to membership. Members may be absolved
from any ritual practices of the Order which may
be contrary to the practices of their religious beliefs.
Non nobis Domine, non

Glory}
