About Us Our
Church Links Welcome to our church - please come and join us for worship and to make new friends. We are here KW1 5QF, on the corner of Francis Street (A99) and Moray Street. Our Scottish Charity number is SC016432. The Scottish Episcopal Church is part of the Anglican Communion and we welcome visitors from all over the world; many return to join us year after year and renew friendships. Our congregation is drawn from a wide area of Caithness with members as far afield as Castletown, Freswick, Lybster and Watten. We are a joint charge with St Peter and the Holy Rood, Thurso, with whom we share our priest. Following
a recent visit to St. John's, Bishop Mark commented in his online diary: Rector
: The Revd. Wendy Knott Assistant
Honorary Curate : The Revd. Fran Davies Contact Us (please do not use e-mail for urgent matters) St. John's also has close links with Freswick Castle where the Rector occasionally celebrates communion in the chapel. There is a small Sunday School which meets once a month in the hall and regularly joins the congregation for a Family Service. The St John's Singers is a musical group open to men and women, church members and non-church members. We sing a variety of music, ranging from pop music to light classics, and some of us lead the singing at special services. If you are interested in joining us, please phone Lyn on 01955 611339 to confirm the date of our next session. The Poltney Ringers meet in the church hall every Tuesday morning at 10.30am when coffee is served and ringing starts at 11.00am. At present there are 17 ringers, both men and women, who ring a mixture of American Handbells, Handchimes and Belleplates. If you have always wanted to learn a new musical instrument or take up a new hobby you are most welcome to come along to just listen or ring. Altar servers
at the church are members of the Scottish Guild of Servers. A small servers'
Priory has been formed and meets on a regular basis. |

St. John's is situated in an attractive site on the corner of Francis Street, the main road into Wick (from the south), and Moray Street. There is a church hall further along Moray Street with the usual facilities where we meet for coffee and a chat as well as for fund-raising events. |

The church, designed by the architect Alexander Ross, was built in 1868-70 and has seating for approximately 110 people. It became a Category B listed building in 1997. The visual appeal of the church is often commented upon both by visitors and local people, and the interior, which has a warm friendly atmosphere, is always appreciated due in no small part to the impressive stained glass windows. |

There is a pipe organ by Harrison of Durham in the chancel and in recent years St. John's has been a venue for musical evenings and concerts. There is also a beautiful, well kept garden maintained by dedicated church members who ensure a regular welcoming display of flowers (weather permitting!). |
